Golden Gate Half Marathon

San Francisco, CA
November 2017

This half marathon went out and back across the Golden Gate Bridge. What an amazing thing!
We lucked out with a sunny morning and no fog. The views from the bridge were breathtaking.

Seeing the bridge up close really allowed me to appreciate the mechanical marvel it is. I had read ‘The Great Bridge’ a few months earlier – and although that was about the Brooklyn Bridge it is the same design. That steel & twisted cable can handle that much stress and weight boggles the mind. To be on the bridge feeling it sway and give was fantastic.

And I have to give a shout out to Esther, who helped me plan my half marathon to finish in the worst possible time! Pretty counter-intuitive thing for a coach to do, but I wanted to walk the bridge both ways, and only had 3 hours to finish the race. She did the hard math & I finished firmly at the end, but delighted with my time walking the Golden Gate Bridge.
